Welcome

Welcome to the Grand Junction Football Official's Association.  The following information is provided to give you a feel for what will be required of you as a new official.  (See CHSAA information.)

Our football officials are comprised of businessmen, teachers, doctors, retired military and more. They have come together to further their love and interest in the game as they serve our high school and middle school athletes.

Our officials began their careers by attending class meetings and by officiating sub-varsity games lead by seasoned and experience officials. Each year thereafter, with further dedicated class participation and OJT, they have honed their skills in the rules and game mechanics. We are truly proud of their accomplishments.

We are hopeful that your involvement in football - at whatever level, past or present - might whet your appetite for a greater appreciation for the game. Toward this end we invite you to consider joining our association.

Clinics

To be announced for the season.  A Master Clinic needs to be attended to qualify for play-off games.

Instructional Program

As you can see from the Meetings Schedule, there are 10 Wednesday night classes. You are required to attend at least 8 but we STRONGLY suggest that you attend all 10.

Attend Games

You are encouraged to attend varsity games.  As a member you may be allowed to join pre-game meetings which start 1 hour prior to game time in the locker room.  This is a time for the officials to dress and discuss rules and mechanics for that night's game. Feel free to ask questions.  You may be able to get on the field to watch the game and at some schools you may be able to be on the chain crew.  Join the crew for the half-time discussion and then watch the second half  from the top of the stands to see how the mechanics flow. When the game ends, meet the crew and join in the post-game discussion in the locker room.

Assignments

An assigner is responsible for the assignment of football officials for all football games played throughout the season. As the request for our officials continues to grow, we are constantly in need of dedicated members who are willing to become trained and qualified football officials.
